- You Genuinely Celebrate The Accomplishments of Other Women
Seeing another woman accomplish great things brings you joy because you know that when one woman rises – we all rise. You don’t feel threatened when another woman reaches her goals because you’re secure in your own achievements.
- You Don’t Feel The Need To Compete With Other Women
You are so laser focused on accomplishing your own goals that you don’t have time to compete with other women. Philosopher Zen Shin said it beautifully: “A flower does not think of competing with the next flower, it just blooms.”
- You’re Solution-Oriented
You are a woman about her business – and because you’re serious about affecting change, you bring solutions – not complaints, to the table.
- You Resolve Differences With Others on a Personal Level
You understand the value of addressing issues and resolving differences with other women on a personal level. You take the finer approach by reaching out directly and avoid using social media to make passive-aggressive statements.
- You Approach Life With a Beginner’s Mind
You understand that there is always something new to learn and that to truly grow as a Finer Woman you must remain a student, not only of Zeta but of life. Consider the following narrative from Josh Linkner regarding Judo master Jigoro Kano. “Upon his death, the founder of the Judo, Jigoro Kano, insisted that he be buried in his white belt instead of his advanced and highly-decorated black belt. In the ultimate act of humility, the most advanced master in the field wanted to spend eternity with a beginner’s mind, open to learning rather than being defined by his previous accomplishments.”
- You Represent Zeta in Finer Fashion
You know that a vital part of being a Finer Woman is to represent Zeta in finer fashion. You understand that we are all ambassadors for Zeta and that everything we say, do and wear in her name puts Zeta in a positive or a negative light. Past International President Isabel M. Herson understood this well when she said “Wherever I went and whatever I did, I was always aware that consciously or unconsciously someone was saying “That’s Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.”
- You Take Care of the Finer Woman Within
You know that living a finer life is not simply about what’s in your wardrobe. You take great care of the finer woman within by ensuring that your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health are intact.
- You Mentor Other Women
You take the time to mentor and guide others who can benefit from the professional, personal and/or Zeta-related knowledge and experience you possess.
- Your Inner Circle Is Brutally Honest With You
Your inner circle (or board of directors as coined by Work Your Package Founder, Soror Ayanna Castro) is comprised of women who push you to and beyond your personal and professional limits as well as celebrate your achievements. These women are also deeply invested in your growth and because of that, they hold you accountable for your actions and love you enough to tell you the truth AND call you out on your mess.
- You Freely Admit When You Make Mistakes
It takes a rare level of maturity and integrity to admit (to yourself and others) when you’ve made a mistake. Being able to accept sisterly correction as a result of a mistake is a sure sign you’re living a finer life.
