Hey there beautiful! I’m Malica, the Blogger-in-Chief of Finer Women Rising, a lifestyle blog that provides inspiration, tools & useful resources to help women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. live their finest lives each and every day.
I’m originally from Queens, NY and like any true NY’er I love authentic NY-style pizza. In fact, just about every time I visit the city I make a pitstop at Margherita Pizza on Jamaica Ave. (try it if you ever find yourself in Queens).
I joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in the spring of 1995 and moved to the DC area not long after I graduated. As a budding web & graphic designer, I caught the attention of Soror Leona Wills and thanks to her, I was appointed to Zeta’s National Web Team where I designed the sorority’s first web presence in 2004. As part of the National Web Team, I helped develop Zeta’s visual branding standards (that are still in place today), designed the sorority’s secondary logo/seal and taught numerous visual, web design and image workshops for our national and state conferences.
I currently live in Laurel, MD with my husband Chris and our two handsome sons Christopher and Jalen. Jalen is on the autism spectrum and preparing for his senior year in high school. I also serve as a mentor to Averi and Samira through Bernadette’s House, a non-profit that provides a safe, supportive space for teen girls in our community.
